There is a difference between a marketing firm and a multi-level marketing company. Direct sales describes a business model where products and services are sold through a network of independent contractors, representatives, or distributors. The salespeople are paid based on their personal sales rather than on building an organization of other salespeople.
Multi-level marketing companies work with a similar business model. But, the difference between them is that they offer retail commissions that are much lower as more of the available commissions are directed toward bonuses paid to various management people in the sponsor tree.
