Starting your day early boasts several positive health benefits, from improved concentration to long-lasting energy and more. A lot of successful people say, “If you win the morning, you win the day!”

However, waking up early takes commitment, but it’s not impossible to turn into an early bird. All you need to do is adopt some powerful and motivating techniques to get rid of that early morning grogginess.

To help you get in the habit of waking up early, we have come up with five helpful tips to make rising early a habit.

1. Consistency
It’s just like training for the community seasonal five or ten-kilometer races. Training your body to perform a task over time will feel more natural. We can break this down into two parts, when you wake up and when you go to sleep at night. Set up a time interval you would like to wake up in the morning. For instance, 5:30 A.M. to 6 A.M. and practice waking up in that time interval. When going to sleep, set a thirty-minute time interval you would like to go to sleep and, within that, create a going to bed routine. For instance, your goal is to go to bed between 10:30 P.M. to 11:00 P.M., and within that thirty minutes, you are performing your going to bed tasks. Practicing these tasks and routines regularly will train your body and eventually feel more natural.

2. Avoid the snooze
Alarms are super important to train yourself to wake up early. You have to practice self-discipline and consistency, and by hitting the snooze button, you are hurting the process. There are ways you can do so you won’t be tempted to hit the snooze button.

a. Place your alarm across the room and somewhere where you would have to get out of bed.

b. Choose a song or create a playlist that will get you pumped or energized to get out of bed.

c. Create a reward system for the first couple of weeks, so you incentive yourself to wake up and still practice consistency.

3. Get your body moving
If you ever woke up at your scheduled time and experienced some brain fog, you would want to do something that gets your body moving. Whether it is stretching, doing a yoga session with your favorite YouTuber, a quick morning workout you found on social media, or taking the dogs on a walk. Getting your body moving and blood pumping can help snap out of that morning brain fog and help with productivity.

4. What’s your motivation
Remember what is fueling your purpose to wake up early. However, it may seem redundant, remembering your “why” will help you stay on track, whether it’s related to health, career, academic, productivity, or self-care goals. To help with those mornings that seem a little tough and more tempting to sleep in and ignore the alarm. Write down your why and what is motivating you somewhere close to your alarm or on your nightstand to keep yourself accountable.

5. Stay hydrated and get caffeinated!
Staying hydrated helps in so many ways. However, in the morning they have their go-to drink that puts the pep in your step, whether it’s drinking a glass of water, brewing a cup of coffee or tea.
